Assisted Living – Various Sites, McCarthy & Stone

About This Project

ELD completed all detailed design for hard and soft landscape and was invited back to review the works at completion. Typically, there had been no involvement post planning and the landscape contractor had not followed the plans accurately, although the square box topiary plants had been included as feature plants, as per the drawings.
The main site constraint included:

  • A mature TPO Copper Beech tree at the entrance, with paths crossing over the fragile root protection area.

To counter this, the design included the following:

  • No dig construction and permeable paving for all hard surface areas around the tree.
Planting was a mixture of contemporary shapes and traditional ground cover mixes, with topiary feature planting. The site included a potting shed and vegetable garden for health and well being.
